This spring, TMU Theatre Arts made box office history at ɫapp with their production of “Anastasia” by completely selling out all nine showings.
Scheduling nine showings was itself a record for the program, which historically has only put on six shows per production.
Prof. Tricia Hulet, director of TMU Theatre Arts for a combined 18 years, was grateful for and humbled by the turnout.
“We always talk about how we’re not entitled to anyone coming to see the shows,” she said. “Our responsibility is to work hard and to prepare something that is excellent and worthy of people coming. Selling out is such a privilege. I’m so happy for the students, for them to get to experience that. That’s such a high compliment for people to give.”
TMU Theatre Arts is a co-curricular program housed in the Communication Department. It is designed to give training and expression in the performing arts alongside any major at the University, with participants and contributors coming from all disciplines, dorms, and interests at TMU. The program offers classes such as Theatre Arts, Theatre Production, and Introduction to Acting, allowing students to receive formal, credited training in the performing arts.
“It was great to see the people that God brought to fit specific roles and specific skill sets, or how their major was being worked out in this creative field,” Hulet said. “It’s just such a beautiful picture of the body of Christ working in all these different areas, pulling this thing together.”
The next Theatre Arts project is fall’s production of “Once in a Lifetime,” taking place Oct. 23-31. Learn more about TMU Theatre Arts here.
